Supporting Colombianimals: A Sterilization Campaign in Malambo, Colombia
Jul 14, 2024
I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you! As many of you know, I am deeply committed to animal welfare and cultural understanding. I am excited to announce that I will be supporting and participating in a sterilization campaign with Colombianimals in Malambo, Colombia this November! Check it out!:
Embracing the Culture of Malambo
Malambo, located in the Atlántico Department of Colombia, is a vibrant town known for its strong cultural roots and close-knit community. The people of Malambo are renowned for their warmth, hospitality, and deep connection to their heritage. This connection is reflected in their festivals, music, and everyday interactions, making Malambo a place where traditions are cherished and community bonds are strong.
In Malambo, the culture is a blend of indigenous, African, and Spanish influences, creating a unique and rich tapestry of traditions. The town’s celebrations are marked by colorful dances, rhythmic music, and communal feasts, showcasing the community’s spirit and unity. I am already dancing with excitement!
This cultural backdrop provides a unique opportunity for us to engage with and learn from the people of Malambo as we work together on this important campaign. The beauty of cultural exchange!
Addressing Overpopulation: A Community Concern
The overpopulation of dogs and cats in Malambo is a pressing issue that has significant implications for both animal welfare and public health. Uncontrolled breeding leads to a high number of stray animals, which can result in various challenges, including the spread of diseases, malnutrition, and animal suffering.
The sterilization campaign organized by Natalia Hanson with Colombianimals aims to address these concerns by providing free spay and neuter services to the local pet population. By controlling the animal population, we can help improve the health and well-being of both the animals and the community. This effort not only reduces the number of strays but also enhances the quality of life for pets and their owners, creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.
Offering a Cultural Intelligence Mastermind Class
Here is where I start dancing again! In addition to supporting the sterilization efforts, I am excited to contribute by hosting a Cultural Intelligence Mastermind Class for all the volunteers. This class will be an essential part of our campaign, equipping our team with the knowledge and skills needed to interact effectively and respectfully within the cultural context of Malambo.
Cultural intelligence, or CQ, is the ability to relate and work effectively across cultures. In a diverse and culturally rich environment like Malambo, understanding and appreciating the local customs and traditions is crucial. Our mastermind class will cover key aspects of cultural intelligence, including:
- Cultural Awareness: Understanding the cultural background and social norms of Malambo.
- Communication Skills: Learning effective ways to communicate across cultural boundaries.
- Empathy and Respect: Building genuine connections with the local community by showing respect and understanding.
By fostering cultural intelligence among volunteers, we aim to create a more inclusive and effective campaign, ensuring that our efforts are respectful and impactful.
A Last-Minute Decision and a Promise for the Future
This decision to join the sterilization campaign in Malambo came about at the literal last minute, and I apologize for the short notice. I promise to give more notice for upcoming trips and mastermind classes, so you can plan and join these meaningful experiences in the future.
